The Black Coarse Filter Mat by Matala Water Technology is a super coarse, low density weave, filtering solution. This filter media is typically used for filtering large particles and debris while allowing great water flow. Often used in combination of other, denser filter mats. All four Matala filter mats can be used together, in larger systems, to filter solids.

The Black Matala filter media can be used as a support grate for other layers of media due to its very sturdy and open design. A single layer can filter out objects such as: leaves, rocks, clumps of algae, seed pods, fish food pellets, plant debris, cigarette butts, plastics debris and mor. Easy to cut into any shap and easy to clean, simply spray with a garden hose and the dirt falls off very easily. Rigid but still flexible, Matala media maintains its shape when water pressure is applied.

In a settling chamber a single layer will slow down and trap medium particles and hair algae. Each additional layer you add will trap a smaller and smaller particle without clogging. The bacteria growing on these strands form thick biofilms in an oxygenated environment with even flow distribution.

Matala Filter Mat Varieties

• Blue (Fine): Medium, high density weave. The Blue Matala Filter Media is typically used to filter out smaller particles while maintaining medium water flow.
• Grey (Super Fine): Fine, super high-density weave. The Grey Matala Filter Media will filter out much smaller particles than the Black, Green or Blue. It will have a lower water flow but thorough filtration.
• Green (Coarse): Course, medium density weave. The Green Matala Filter Media is typically used as a larger particle size solids filter or with other layers of filter media while allowing good water flow.
• Black (Super Coarse): Very Coarse, low density weave. The Black Matala Filter Media is typically used as a larger particle size solids filter or with other layers of filter media while allowing good water flow.

All four Matala filter mats can be used together, in larger systems, to help remove solids. The open structure design of the Matala filter media allows for a good flow without having channeling.
